Harada Aoi x Yamasaki Ten (1st gen x 2nd gen Special Talk from Documentary Movie Brochure)

Being the group’s “youngest child” cherished by anyone, there is the charm of the “gap” between the outside appearance and the inside.
The “being loved consultation” of the, in reality shy, companions starts here.

「An existence as a younger sister as well as an older sister」

Yamasaki-san first met Harada-san at the time of the Nippon Budoukan performance in May 2019, is that correct?

Ten: Before that we met once. The first time I saw Harada-san she was being surrounded by 1st gen-san.

Aoi: At that time I knew there were a few 2nd generation members there but since I am shy I could not really talk. Because of that I greeted 2nd generation members for the first time on the day of Budoukan.

If you think about it, it's only been a little more than a year. What impression of Harada-san did Yamasaki-san have from the time you were seeing her on TV?

Ten: She has a sweet appearance so I assumed she was a little sister character, but when I met her it was totally different and she was completely a big sister type. So, while she is cute like a character from a picture book, she's a big sister who acquired a lot of knowledge, or how I should put it.

Aoi: Oh, aren’t you good at giving compliments. You're making me happy (laughs). I had seen Ten-chan broadcasting on SHOWROOM before joining Keyakizaka46, she's young, from Osaka, very bright, so I assumed she was a simple innocent girl. When I came back from my break of activities we had close positions at the rehearsals, and furthermore we often shared the same way home, so we ended up talking a lot. And so, her way of thinking is so mature that you wouldn't think it would come from a middle schooler, the gap was very big.

So, both of you had that kind of gap.

Ten: After all, I often witness Harada-san being toyed with when she is with the 1st generation members, so it makes me think she is very cherished.

Aoi: It’s okay if you come inside the circle too!

Ten: Well then… once in a while (laughs).

Aoi: Yesterday too you were dragged into it by everyone, right? (laughs). Everyone was teasing Sugai Yuuka-chan, but Yukka just responded kindly with a friendly grin on her face. Just then we turned to you and asked “Ten-chan, what do you think?”, and you responded while smiling (laughs).

Ten: It was fun (laughs).

The two of you, you are the youngest child of each generation, but in everyday life you both are the eldest daughter. With that as well, I thought you have the impression of being a reliable person.

Aoi: If you actually meet Ten-chan she is both tall and her looks are very adult-like. But now and then there are childish sides and I thought that is very middle school-ish. Until now there was no younger-ish younger person in the group, so when I look at Ten-chan I sometimes think “So maybe this is how I was like to the other members?”.

How was it when it was only the 1st generation members?

Aoi: It felt like I had many older sisters. Everyone was kind and said “You don’t have to use keigo (speak politely)”. Oze-chan (Ozeki Rika) told me “We are the same generation so it’s fine without any keigo!”.

Yamasaki-san as well, all the members of your generation are older.

Ten: At first there was an age difference or, I really felt a distance. As expected I looked at them as “older sisters”, but as we gradually got to know each other better I noticed their mental age was young, in a good meaning (laughs), and it became really easy to talk to them. I am the eldest daughter and there was no older person among relatives or around me. I always thought I wanted a big sister, so in that sense I was very happy.

Aoi: I also always wanted a big sister or big brother, even now I still think I want them. I mean, if you have an older sibling when you go traveling and stuff like that, won't they come with you? Because of that, I'm really glad now that members will come with me (on trips). Ten-chan, let's go together next time!

Ten: Oh, really? Yay!

Aoi: Until now I haven't really been deeply involved with a junior before, and becoming a senior itself is a first experience to me. To the extent that I still kind of don't know how to deal with it.

Moreover, when you returned to the group you suddenly had juniors.

Aoi: I had nothing but the feeling that rather I was the junior (laughs).

Ten: No, not at all (laughs).

Aoi: Since you did various activities like Live (concert) during the period I was on a break I think you acquired lots of experience. On the contrary I forgot a lot of various things during the year and it felt like I was starting over, so in that way I thought maybe 2nd generation are my seniors.

Ten: Fufufu (laughs). Since I heard that Harada-san was working tremendously hard with studies, when she returned I was glad from the bottom of my heart.

Aoi: So kind (laughs).

For example, have you ever profited from the fact that you are the youngest in the group (each gen)?

Ten: I have not.

Aoi: You haven’t? So, what about losses?

Ten: After all there are times when jobs are restricted by age limit, and there are many times that it is frustrating. Oh, but, I could make many older sister-like people which is perhaps a profit.

Aoi: That’s right. As for me… this is something I always think about but, if you are older don’t you have to go in front and do greetings first? (laughs) I am not so good at that sort of thing, so when it was only 1st generation, whoever I paired up with I basically always had someone to rely on. I always thought that was a point of benefit of being younger.

I see. Well then, is there anything about each other that makes you think “that’s eldest-daughter-like”.

Ten: Harada-san is youngest-child-like (laughs).

Aoi: Arara~ (laughs).

Ten: Of course there are big-sister-like things too, but after all when seeing her together with the 1st generation members I think she is really a youngest child. But, when together with 2nd generation members I think there comes out some parts like a caring big sister.

Aoi: As for Ten-chan, I think her looking at her surroundings quite earnestly is eldest-sister-like. Also, she doesn’t really whine often, she doesn’t really come and tell about those things, so I think that is very big-sister-like. But, when there is something that troubles her I want her to say it. I think it would be good if she could come and talk about anything.

Ten: When I have any worries I don’t ask anyone for advice. I haven’t ever even asked my parents. But to have you say that to me makes me very happy. I am really relieved.

Aoi: You can tell me anytime!

Ten: Okay.

Before, you said that you often share the same way home, but during those times what kind of conversations do you have?

Aoi: Things like “What do you do when we’re off work?”. We also talked about movies, right? “What are you watching lately?”

Ten: Ah, we did.

Aoi: Also, Ten-chan makes weird drawings. She draws a lot of various “eye” drawings, so she shows them to me.

Ten: Harada-san is very easy to talk to, she’s a good listener.

Aoi: No no, I’m just a chatty person (laughs).

Ten: There are many shy people in 2nd generation so as a junior I am very glad that she starts to talk to me in a friendly way like that.

Is there some part about each other that you respect like “I really learn from this”?

Ten: I really like Harada-san in “Ballet to Shounen”. When I could see the live performance as well it was really cute. At the rehearsals too I’ll see it unintentionally, and I think it is a song filled with the virtue of Harada-san.

Aoi: I’m glad (laughs). When I look at Ten-chan she improves really fast, her memory is really good, her line in “Eccentric” is also really cool, so it often makes me think that I have to work harder myself too. Even though she’s overflowing with talent like this, she’s 5 years younger than me. I become envious.

Speaking of which, as Harada-san watched Keyakizaka46’s Nippon Budoukan performance from the audience seat, to do that as a member it must have been a valuable experience.

Aoi: When you are part of the group, it’s a rare occasion. We have always since a long time ago talked among the members about how “We want to try out seeing a Keyakizaka46 live from the audience”, so I could truly experience how the fans feel when they are watching the stage. Come to think of it, during the Budoukan time, everyone said me and Ten-chan looked alike, right?

Ten: Yes, it was like that.

Aoi: I was also told by the make-up staff “When I do Ten-chan’s make-up, I thought that she resembles you a little”.

Ten: Resembles? I haven’t really thought that, on the contrary I always felt sorry for it.

Aoi: No no, it’s rather me that’s feeling sorry (laughs).

What about making use of this opportunity to ask questions about things you normally cannot ask about?

Aoi: What to ask..... Ah, what do you want to try out to do the most?

Ten: Acting, or more precisely, I always wanted to try doing a stage play or drama. Of course I want to do more live concerts as well, but I want to try to challenge things like that (drama/play) too.

Aoi: You have a good figure, so it seems that you would shine in a stage play.

Ten: A while ago I got to see the stage play “Hiryuuden 2020” that Sugai-san performed in, I thought it was amazing. Also, I like to draw paintings and I also like going to art museums, so I would like to attempt doing art.

So in that way, putting lots of your eye drawings on display?

Ten: Ah, I want to do that! Well then me too, I want to ask what Harada-san wants to do now. Goals from now on and things like that.

Aoi: Since I especially got more time than during high school, maybe I want to try traveling overseas alone. I tried going on a trip alone within Japan, but not yet overseas… Come to think of it, Ten-chan doesn’t really use Kansai dialect a lot, right?

Ten: Aah, maybe (laughs). When I talk with (Matsudaira) Riko I’m dragged along little by little and my keigo becomes hyojungo (standard japanese, polite but not as polite as keigo), but when I talk with the Kansai members it (dialect) comes out at times.

Aoi: Okay so in order to hear the rare Kansai dialect maybe I should put my fake Kansai dialect into use (laughs).
