These two are unmeasurable! (Masumoto Kira x Onuma Akiho interview in BRODY June 2021)

According to Onuma-san, Masumoto-san is the only one who's always so energetic when there is a job in the early morning or there’s work that takes a long time.
K: It’s fun to be with everyone.
O: But even when everyone is sleeping, she would ask someone quietly “Let's play” (laughs).
What kind of games do you usually play?
K: We play sumo, air-jump rope, and “Masumoto Amusement Park” although we haven’t done that lately. But I play a game where Onuma-san and Moriya Akane-san throw a superball and I catch it. We played for 2~3 throws before I got bored and said, “Ah, that’s enough”.
O: On the morning of Kouhaku Uta Gassen, Kira-chan said to me calmly “Let's make ayatori using these bento's strings” in spite of everyone being so nervous at that time.
K: I made a broom figure from bento's string, and Onuma-san really swept the trash for me, it was fun. I asked her, “One more time” many times.
O: I kept doing it because she seems to like it when I do so (laughs).
Did you also play around during 'Omotta Yori Sabishikunai' MV shooting?
K: There are also ‘playing’ parts in the choreography, so I think it conveyed the fun of it.
O: Takahiro-sensei made the dance based on the individuality of each member. Mine was 'forward-leaning posture' (laughs). Takahiro-sensei came to like my 'forward-leaning’ pose after watching Sokosaku.
K: Mine was 'Hana Ichi Monme'. At Kouhaku, Takahiro-sensei would participate in 'Hana Ichi Monme' from morning.
Onuma-san always accompanies Masumoto-san on her game, right?
K: My needy personality is outrageous, and there was a time when Onuma-san got sick after playing with me, so now I'm trying to not go that far. I once asked Onuma-san to do some breaststroke practice on the ground and I wonder if Onuma-san bears a big mental burden when doing that.
O: The waiting time was so long, I spent about 7 hours playing with Kira-chan.
K: Didn't you give up when we were already playing for about 5 hours? (Ozono) Rei-chan even said, "Let’s stop it already."
On the ‘Which member do you not want as girlfriend’ episode in ‘Soko Magattara, Sakurazaka?’, Onuma-san chose Masumoto-san, right?
K: I think that the majority of members choose me as “Which member do you not want as girlfriend. When I asked Tamura-san and Takemoto-san about it, "You didn't write my name, right?", they were being evasive like, “Hm~?”. However, Kobayashi-san mentioned her “lack of ability” on being able to handle me as the reason for not choosing me, I'm sure it'll change when she becomes stronger enough to handle me (smile).
You're so positive (laughs). And Onuma-san's reason to choose Masumoto-san was “If I wear clothes with the cost over 5000 yen, I'd be teased”
K: You mean you don't want me to ask you how much your clothes cost, right? It's not like you don't like me as a person.
O: No. It's not that I don't like you as a person.
K: Anyway, I've only asked how much your clothes cost for only like three times.
O: That's not true (laughs). You ask me that every time.
So Masumoto-san doesn’t wear expensive clothing then?
K: I don’t. I bought an expensive dress once, but the size didn't fit me. Then I thought that it would suit Onuma-san so I asked her to try to check the dress but she made fun of it, saying "What's this? Men's Wear?"
O: It's because the lower part of the dress touches the floor even though I wear it with heels. I was also shocked to know that the cost of the dress was about 16.000 yen.
K: Until now I'm still keeping that dress in my wardrobe since Onuma-san didn't want to wear it. When I hang the dress on the wardrobe, the lower part touches the floor (laughs).
"Numa Rhythm" you did in Sokosasu is so popular
K: Before "Numa Rhythm" became popular, I also sent a self-produced song in mobame. But, right after "Numa Rhythm" came out, I stopped making songs. The level is completely different.
O: So we thought of the same thing.
K: Not at all, "Numa Rhythm" is overflowing with talent. And the compilation video as well, you put many thoughts into the video and you took a lot of time to make it. I acknowledge you.
O: You're exaggerating it (laughs) Kira-chan said that she wanted to do a collaboration together. But it’s not like we are splitting jobs like one making the lyrics and the other making the composition, she wants each of us making the whole song by ourselves and then playing it together at the same time (laughs)
It seems like there’d be a lot of dissonance (laughs). Speaking of Masumoto-san, your magic performance at the New Year Party was so good.
O: Her performance was so funny. I had to compose the Numa Rhythm by myself, so I feel jealous that Kira-chan was accompanied by the magic master since the practice. Also, the face they make when they successfully perform the trick was Kira-chan's idea, right?
K: Yeah. 4 M. Magic, Masumoto, Marino, and then, Magao (Serious look)
I see... Is that true?
K: I added 'serious look' just now (laughs).
Control Experiment
I've been tricked (laughs) It seems like Onuma-san and Masumoto-san have a similar sense of humor and I thought that it would be great if you two have something different.
K: There are times we think "Ah, we are similar" but there are times I think "What is she saying?" (laughs)
Therefore I'd like to ask some standard questions to find out the differences between the two of you. The first question is, 'If the world ends tomorrow, what would you do?'
K: I'll spend my money.
O: I'll do a lot of fishing.
K: Fish are much more perceptive compared to humans. Pretty sure they've already left the ocean when that happens. I think that sounds unrealistic.
O: Ehh~ what would Kira-chan buy then?
K: I'm going to buy the sweets that I always thought were a bit too expensive at the convenience store.
Next is "What do you think you were in your previous life?"
O: Dinosaur. It’s because people always say "You look like a dinosaur" based on the way I run and how I start to destroy something.
K: Mosquito. You would usually crush a mosquito by squeezing it with both your hands, right? There was a time when I remember seeing that scenery from a mosquito’s point of view. Moreover, the mosquito's vision isn't pitch black but more like gradually turning into orange.
If there is a shooting star, what would you wish for?
O: I wanna live.
K: You want to go to the star?
O: No. I mean that I want to live longer. Whether you'll die or not, that’s the most important thing, right? I might also be dying when the shooting star appears.
K: I think I'd say "Wait, wait". We are also asked the same question when we're still trainees. That time I spontaneously answered the question and then I've been told to have some clear goal. I’d like to think about it from now on.
Something that you'll bring with you if you go to an uninhabited island?
K: Vinyl bag. My father taught me that you can filter seawater using a vinyl bag.
O: Watermelon. When I was interviewed for a part-time job at a wedding hall, I was asked the same question. Back then I answered, "Watermelon is a fruit with a mass of water that humans need, and after eating it, there are many seeds that we can grow", and got really praised for it.
K: I've lost in this battle.
Last question ‘Words that make you happy when you are praised?’
K: I love when people call me “sincere”. It's because I’m a person who cannot hide a secret.
O: Many people often say that I have a 'unique character' or that I’m 'funny'. I felt pleased when hearing those words, but after all, it makes me happy when people say "You're so cute" to me. Ah, I answered the question seriously (laughs).
K: Onuma-san, you are cute though.
The Real Face of The Clown
O: I've read it. I feel embarrassed to see my unique character on the aired episode, but Tsuchida-san complimented me on my innocentness, so I’d like to do my best from now on as well.
And he said that Masumoto-san is even crazier than Onuma-san
K: Not at all. The nickname Fujiyoshi-san gave to Onuma-san was "great mystery" and for me was "great mystery 2". I’m glad that I’m not the only weirdo. Onuma-san's presence reassures me.
O: I'm also glad about Kira-chan's presence here. There are times where we argue, but we also support each other. There was also a time when we hugged each other.
On what occasion you were hugging each other?
O: That time I was feeling down after the recording process, and Kira-chan called me to come to her. When I was about to go, I cried from hearing an emotional song that was playing, and we hugged each other.
K: When we were hugging, the chorus started playing and I cried too.
O: (Kousaka) Marino-chan took a picture of that (laughs)
K: And then we ended up having a chat together with Marino-chan for about 3 hours.
What do you mean by 'an emotional song'?
K: The lyrics of "Pierrot by KEI feat. Hatsune Miku" suited Onuma-san really well. It’s about someone who is funny in front of people, and always gives the best to make them laugh. But a crying girl from the audience says, “When it’s hard, say that it’s hard, I want you to show your true face”.
[TLN: “Pierrot” is a generic name given to clown characters in French theatre. The Japanese use this term as a loan word to mean “clown.”]
O: At first I was like "Eh?" because the audio is like a robot, but then I realized the lyrics were so wonderful.
K: Because of that I renamed Onuma's LINE contact name to be "Onuma Clown" (laughs)
If that's the case, I feel like that would change the topic (laughs).
O: Recently, Kira-chan called me “Clown” (laughs). Kira-chan is also a clown.
K: Onuma-san said that everyone is a clown, but I think that Onuma-san is the real clown.
From now on I want see you two enliven Sokosaku
K: A lot of people told me “That was funny” or “You were so active” in mobame letters and meguri, it made me happy so I’ll do my best.
O: I have the desire like "I want to make people smile!", so I hope I’m able to show myself from now on as well.
